Follow Where? How? Why?

Come let us go together to pastures green and soft – to water fresh and pure, and the safety of the Spirit – protected haven prepared for you in the midst of a treacherous world…”

Meditation Thought: “‘Follow me’ and he left everything and rose and followed him.” (Luke 5:27-28)

“Yes-yes-yes- ‘follow me’. I take you not away from your family and your duties, but deeper into them. Do not fear that I will divide your loyalty: I come to integrate one part of your being with another. You are the one who has fragmented yourself, fretting over choices, talking yourself into doing what you ‘ought’ to do when your desire was in another direction. Follow me into the sweet places of love, of delight of a child at the provision of his father for him. He does not question his right to the delights that his father provides him. He just enjoys them.

Walk uprightly, and do good – but with happy abandon, not with solemn stiffness.

Relax – I will give you what you need when you need it. Do not anticipate where you will be struggling with what may be completely alien to what will come – but deal with this moment according to My Word and Spirit. Pray for guidance. Listen fr guidance. Believe that you act according to My Will if you have done the first two steps, and then forget the action when it is over, so that you have cleared your emotions for the present moment.

The Way to Peace

Do not attempt to have peace by controlling circumstances. This is not possible. The way to peace in any circumstances is to welcome Me into your life.

Meditation Thought: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” (John 14:27)

” ‘My peace I give to you.’ Do not attempt to have peace by controlling circumstances. This is not possible. The way to peace in any circumstances is to welcome Me into your life, to the point of allowing Me to control you – not because I desire to thwart your will, but because I desire to conform it to My perfect will – I can guide you to peace and all good things if your will is placed within My will.

To have your focus upon Me – to follow Me – is to help you make wise decisions and to accomplish the exercises of discipline in doing what you know is right, even when that action is not to your liking. Never doubt that to follow Me will bring joy. You may not glimpse any possibility that disciplined, righteous action will result in the desires of your heart being realized – but it is only through following Me in decisions and in behavior that you can find peace and all else that you long for.

You will find that disciplined, righteous action brings health, vitality, and the pleasure of peace. You can discover this only in one way: to do it – whether you feel like it is immaterial – you determine to do it. First you determine to follow Me, then you are able to do so even when difficulties are encountered.

You can build up your determination through knowing Me through the Word, through prayer, through meditation, through imitating My attitudes and actions – believing that I tell Truth, live Truth, am Truth – therefore, you are filled with Truth, and Truth never misleads you. This is why you will become wise in thought, in word, and in deed as you follow My leading, as you know Me as your Guide, and as your Strength.”

Light of Life

With light we see clearly – we can appreciate what we see; we can travel the way we choose to go, and thus we can accomplish what we desire to accomplish.

Meditation Thought: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Light versus darkness – what a difference in these two situations! In darkness we are disoriented and confused about how we can get to where we want to go.

With light we see clearly – we can appreciate what we see; we can travel the way we choose to go, and thus we can accomplish what we desire to accomplish.

Who is this person who wants me to follow him? Is He the one whom I should follow? What is this man’s character? He obeyed God’s commands, even to the point of terrible pain and sacrifice in the body. He preached love and revealed God as a loving Father. He performed miracles to reveal the powerfulness and goodness of God.

Yes, I am willing to follow Him. I’m weak and cowardly but He promised that He would put an indwelling Spirit of God within me so that I could become a person who would develop the character and faith that He demonstrated for me and for others.

Lord, I’m a weak and selfish-natured person to be given such an undertaking. But that is the whole point, isn’t it? With this nature any improvements and works due to those improvements become a light unto Your path. Thank You!
